When Mark and Christy Turnland were given the news that their daughter Amy was diagnosed with T1D eight years ago, they wanted to do something meaningful in an effort to eliminate the disease for future generations. They found that opportunity in the Walk to Cure Diabetes and have been participating as “Amy’s Angels” ever since.
The Walk is one of Amy’s favorite days of the year – riding the roller coasters at Great America with her friends and family is hard to beat! Equally important, this top fundraising team knows that the money they raise at the Walk is put to good use. Amy’s father Mark says, “JDRF is an outstanding organization that puts a high percentage of funds directly into research.”
What is their definition of a hero? Mark says, “Our daughter Amy, now 11, who after thousands of pokes and shots over the past eight years, keeps a very positive attitude toward the disease. She keeps marching forward every day. She admires the heroes who spend their lives working to develop treatments and a cure, and thanks them for their continued hard work and dedication.”
