Featured Heroes: Team Jensen

by JDRF Bay Area on February 21, 2012

When you raise $100 or more for the Walk to Cure Diabetes, you are not just a fundraiser, you are a hero. Learn how your fundraising makes a difference, and the fun benefits of being a hero.

Each year that Team Jensen participates in the Walk to Cure Diabetes, people want to know which one of the family’s children has T1D. “Actually, I’m one of the 50% of adults who were diagnosed with T1D after the age of 18,” says Shelly Jensen, mother of two. “We walk as a family for my wife and for future generations. We want to help wipe out this disease once and for all,” says her husband Aaron.

This energetic team takes advantage of everything that Walk Day provides in family-fun activities, great music, delicious refreshments, and of course the extraordinary camaraderie among the thousands of walkers who come to rally together. “But that is only part of what the Walk really means for us. The Walk is JDRF’s biggest fundraiser and we feel an obligation to do all we can to collect donations in support of research. What we all really want is a better life and a cure.”

For Shelly, a hero is someone who does not give up when there is a greater good at stake. ìThose are the doctors and scientists who are working hard every day to find better treatments and a cure for T1D,” she says. “Millions of people benefit from their perseverance.”
