AT WORK
Become a Corporate Sponsor
Statistics indicate that 21% of your employee base may be directly affected by diabetes, either personally or through someone in their immediate family. Diabetes is the single most costly chronic disease, accounting for over $174 billion annually in health care costs in the U.S. alone. There is no other non-profit in the world that provides more funding for diabetes research than JDRF. In 2010 alone, JDRF’s fundraising efforts have resulted in over $107 million in grants to support and guide the research efforts of biotech and pharmaceutical firms and research institutions throughout the world.
Start a Corporate Walk Team
Many of our sponsors form one or more Walk Teams in addition to making a sponsorship gift. Benefits of team participation:
- Promotes teamwork. Whether you have 5 or 5,000 employees, participation in Walk To Cure Diabetes is a great way to build team spirit and a sense of camaraderie among employees
- Increases your visibility in the community. It sends a strong signal that you and your employees care about the health and welfare of your neighbors. In short, it’s good public and community relations
- Great way to build employee morale. It demonstrates your company wants to play an important role in supporting worthy, charitable causes. Employees are proud to work for these types of companies
- Costs your company very little since funds are raised through individual donations gathered by team members from co-workers and their families, friends and neighbors
- Fun for your employees and their families and friends. The Walk draws people together in a healthy activity for a worthy cause. It’s an event that you and all your team members will feel good about being a part of

IN THE COMMUNITY
Help Spread Awareness
Ask your neighborhood business if they will put out posters or Point-of-Purchase stands with brochures.
If you would like to help spread awareness in your community, we will be happy to mail you larger posters, point-of-purchase stands, and other materials. Just tell us what you want and where to send it! Send Katy Coe an e-mail or give her a call: (415) 597-6318
Sneaker Sales
Sneaker sales are one way for retail stores to build excitement about the Walk to Cure Diabetes in their community while raising critical research dollars that can be credited to the company’s walk team total. Past national sneaker sellers have included Advance Auto Parts, Walgreens, Stop & Shop and Marshalls, just to name a few.
Cashiers or associates ask customers at point-of-purchase to buy a paper sneaker to help the store support diabetes research. The customer signs his/her name on the sneaker and then the sneakers are displayed throughout the store. The program usually runs four weeks. To start the program, display a sneaker for every employee.
The promotion is easy and fun for stores to implement. JDRF will supply the sneakers and stickers or buttons for employees to wear. Get started by requesting JDRF to send you paper sneakers.
How you can help:
- Sell Sneakers at your business
- Ask your neighborhood businesses if they will participate
- Help us thank our Sneaker Sale partners
