You Can Be A Hero

Imagine if no one ever again had to hear the devastating words, “You have type 1 diabetes.” When this news hits home, it is startling, terrifying and bewildering. Then come the daily finger pricks, multiple insulin shots or infusion sites, shaky lows, lethargic highs, worrisome and sleepless nights. Soon it becomes very clear that insulin is not a cure for this chronic disease.

JDRF’s mission is to find a cure for type 1 diabetes (T1D) and its complications through support of research. But we can’t do it alone. Right now in America, more than 3 million children and adults have T1D. They couldn’t prevent it and they won’t outgrow it. New cases are on the rise and no one knows why.

You can help change this by fundraising for the Walk to Cure Diabetes. The money you raise allows critical and groundbreaking research to continue and to help us achieve our goals to cure, better treat, and prevent T1D.

Help Make a Difference

When you raise $100 or more for the Walk to Cure Diabetes, you are not just a fundraiser, you are a hero. Here is why your fundraising makes a difference:

  • Your dollars go straight to work.
More than 80% of JDRF’s expenditures directly support research and research-related education. We have always been dedicated to maintaining the highest levels of efficiency to ensure that the dollars you raise can achieve as great an impact as possible.
  •
  • The greatest scientific minds in the world are passionate about finding a cure.
But they need funding in order to continue their potentially life-altering research. Your fundraising will make a dramatic impact by helping to move this research out of the lab and into human clinical trials. Recently, the amazing work of Dr. Seung Kim of Stanford University found a “pathway” to foster beta cell regeneration. Your fundraising will help him further explore the potential of this discovery.
  •
  • Your fundraising improves lives now.
JDRF-funded research also leads to pivotal treatments such as the Artificial Pancreas Project and Genentech’s development of Lucentis, a medication which reverses Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) and restores vision.

Celebrate on Walk Day

Not only will your fundraising help us find a cure for T1D, but each person who raises $100 or more will receive the following benefits on Walk Day:

  • Access to a fun and family-friendly venue with plenty of activities and entertainment
  • A Walk to Cure Diabetes t-shirt to wear with pride
  • Delicious food and refreshments
  • A “Hero” pin recognizing that you have helped to find a cure for T1D
